4Handy, with a few bugsJul 27, 2010
For the most part, I would definitely recommend this for your storage needs. The directions do have a few ambiguities which lead to a few mistakes in measuring (and consequently, a few redos and some frustration), but overall it is a solid product. I do wish there was a guide to force the cabling to wind up even on all sides as it can overlap itself in places causing the basket to rise a little uneven. I used this lift to store my 16ft long canoe and gear and it came in really handy.

4Great storage solutionJul 23, 2010
I bought this to store a very large car top carrier, (92" long x 36" wide x 18" high), and it works great. The carrier only weighs 70 lbs, but it's bulky and I needed to get it up off the floor.
I put it up myself, but I am very handy. (However,I did use the services of my son to hold a tape measure for me when I measured 48" from the holes of the first arm I drilled).
Definitly use a template to mark the screw holes in the ceiling.
The lag screws do not have washers, so purchase 20 of them.
I used a slightly larger 9/64"Dia. drill to pre-drill the holes, instead of 1/8" Dia.
When you tighten the "J" hooks, if you tighten them too tight the cross beams will tilt. You can loosen off the nuts and the beam will straighten out, however the nuts can now vibrate loose and fall off. I bought 12 M6 nylok lock nuts. (Nuts with a nylon insert). These will allow you to tork the nuts snug enough to hold the grate, but not enough to cause a tilt, and they won't fall off.
Make sure you tighten all the nuts on the cable clamps, mine were all loose. I think the manufacturer leaves them loose so that you can adjust the height and level off the platform. I had a difference of 3" on one end and had to shorten the cable on that side. Final adjustment was done with the eye bolts in the corners.
To put the lag screws in the corners above the pulleys, I used a 10mm closed ratcheting wrench to screw them up close to the ceiling. I then used a 10mm socket with a swivel to tork them up. (No need to take the pulleys off).
You will need a 1/2" variable speed reversing drill to raise and lower the platform. The end of the crank would not fit in my 3/8" drill.
All in all a great product.

5jk hardtop hoist!!Jul 22, 2010
install took some time, but was fairly easy! perfect lift for your JK hardtop. all you need is 2 ratchet straps, and strap it to the shelf! then store your freedom tops on top of the shelf!

4Racor Pro HeavyLift Storage RackJun 28, 2010
I have a fold up 4x8 utility trailer that's stored in the up right position. The space required to keep it in the garage wasn't too large an area, but I did cost wall space I needed. Since the lift capacity is well within the trailers weight, it looked like a good idea to get it off the gound and out of the way. It worked out perfect for gaining floor space. The only problem I have is the cranking force required to lift the trailer. With a couple of breaks between cranks I manage to get it up and out of the way. Well worth the purchase

3Good product, but . . .Jun 16, 2010
This is a good method for getting stuff off of your garage floor. I have two of them.
The assembly instructions are awful. See other reviews for the best way to assemble this product. Start by throwing away the flimsy bolts included in the package.

It would be nice if the platform went all the way to the floor, but it doesn't.
